Overview
What is Michi?
Michi is an iOS app that brings Kanji study and JLPT preparation (N5 through N1) together in one place. It covers vocabulary, grammar, reading, and listening practice for every level, plus kanji stroke order and readings, flashcards, mock exams, and weak-point review drills. A calm, adult-focused design, daily encouragement, and optional background music help you keep a steady pace.
Note: Michi is an independent study app and is not affiliated with the JLPT organizers (JEES / The Japan Foundation).
How to Use
Basic Operation
- Launch the app and choose the level you want to study (N5 through N1).
- From the home screen, pick a study mode such as Kanji, Quiz, Mock Exam, or Flashcards.
- Quizzes show correct and incorrect answers immediately, and questions you miss are added to your review set automatically.
- Mock exams can be taken in Full, Half, or Short length in an exam-style format.
- In Settings you can adjust the kanji display style (textbook or brush), background music, and volume.
Michi Pro
Upgrading to Pro
You can try a set number of practice questions and kanji lessons each day for free. Upgrading to Michi Pro removes the daily limit and unlocks every feature. Pro is available in three options, all of which unlock the same Pro feature set:
- Lifetime (one-time) — $34.99, a single payment for permanent access (best value)
- Yearly — $24.99/year auto-renewable subscription
- Monthly — $9.99/month auto-renewable subscription
Subscription payments are charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and the renewal is charged within 24 hours prior to the end of the period at the same price. Subscriptions can be managed and auto-renewal turned off in your App Store account settings after purchase. Lifetime is a one-time purchase and does not auto-renew.
Troubleshooting
Common Issues
My Pro purchase is not showing / I want to use it on another device
- Make sure you are connected to the internet.
- Tap Restore Purchases on the paywall screen or in Settings to restore Pro purchased with the same Apple Account.
- Both Lifetime and subscriptions work on your other devices at no extra cost as long as they use the same Apple ID.
How do I cancel my subscription?
- Open the iPhone Settings app, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions.
- Select Michi and tap Cancel Subscription.
- You keep Pro features until the end of the current billing period.
Audio (listening questions or background music) will not play
- Check that the iPhone silent switch is not enabled.
- In the Sound section of Settings, confirm that background music and volume are not turned off or set to zero.
- If the issue persists, restart the app.
My study progress disappeared
- Progress is stored locally on your device and may reset if the app is reinstalled or the device is changed.

Privacy
Privacy
Michi requires no account. It handles only an anonymous Device ID and your purchase history, as needed for the app to function, and never uses them for tracking or advertising. Your study data is stored on your device. See our Privacy Policy for details.
